Nakodaji Tirth – Barmer, Rajasthan

The Jain Tirth at Nakodaji in Barmer, Rajasthan, holds deep spiritual significance. When the Trust invited Emerald Sustainable Foundation to create a forest in the challenging terrain of the Aravalli region, we felt honoured. Acknowledging the sandy and rocky landscape, the project demanded thoughtful planning and careful execution.

Extensive soil building measures were undertaken to prepare the land for plantation. A complete fencing system and water infrastructure were established across the 5-acre site, with continuous water support provided by the Trust through an RO plant. These efforts laid a strong foundation for long-term growth in an otherwise harsh environment.

Beyond afforestation, the project integrates spaces for reflection and community use. Mini sit-out areas, flower beds around the meditation centre, and a dedicated Nav Graha Vann representing the celestial bodies were thoughtfully created. Water pathways and a small catchment area were designed to manage monsoon flows effectively.

Today, the forest stands as a testament to human will, perseverance, and working in harmony with nature. The temperature inside the forest is consistently 5–6 degrees cooler, creating a near-tropical microclimate within a desert region a powerful example of what dedicated ecological restoration can achieve.
