JNPA – Navi Mumbai Project

JNPA – Navi Mumbai

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container handling port, has witnessed significant loss of natural vegetation due to infrastructure development, leading to rising temperatures and a dry microclimate. With a strong vision of developing a Green Port, the leadership invited Emerald Sustainable Foundation to partner with corporates to restore ecological balance in the SEZ area.

With support from SBI Foundation, Nuvama, SEEPZ Unit holders, and other partners, Emerald is creating a large-scale, bio-diverse forest of over 1.5 lakh trees. What was once a barren landscape is now transforming into a thriving forest ecosystem.

Our team established robust water infrastructure and focused extensively on improving degraded soil quality to support long-term growth. As the forest takes root, it is already attracting birds, butterflies, and seasonal flora. By the time the SEZ becomes fully operational, the area is expected to experience a cooler microclimate and a healthier, more pleasant environment to work in.
