JNPA – Navi Mumbai Project

MOPA – GMR, Goa

The development of the MOPA Airport in North Goa came at the cost of forested hill landscapes. Under the directives of the courts, GMR demonstrated that critical infrastructure development and environmental responsibility can coexist. As part of this commitment, a large scale afforestation project was commissioned directly on airport land.

Where a cement mixing plant once stood in April 2024, a thriving native forest is now taking shape. Spread across 10 acres, this project involves the plantation of over 52,000 trees, many of which have already grown beyond 10 feet in height by early 2026 a remarkable transformation in a short span of time.

Implemented in partnership with LEED Ecosystems, the forest has been designed using native species that seamlessly integrate with Goa’s ecological and cultural landscape. The active participation of GMR’s leadership, who personally planted trees on site, reflects a strong commitment to sustainability. This forest stands as a living example of how infrastructure and environment can thrive together when guided by vision and responsibility.
